Len Murray has been described as the country’s top speaker on Robert Burns and his Immortal Memory has been described as “legendary”. Throughout his legal career he has been associated with headline cases for household names like Paul McCartney and Billy Connolly. Rod Stewart, David Sole of Starsky and Hutch fame, Tommy Docherty, Jock Wallace and the legendary Jock Stein were also among his clients. Also on the list were Scottish Television, ITN and Times Newspapers. When 4 Old Firm players were charged with an on-the-park breach of the peace, Len was instructed by both clubs to represent their players.
Being born in Glasgow a long time ago, certainly long before traffic wardens were ever invented, a High Court Judge once described him as “the most respected pleader of his generation.” After studying Modern Languages and Law at Glasgow University Len Murray qualified as a solicitor.
Remaining in practice in Glasgow until 2003 up until retirement, he says he had not a bad career, especially being the first ever media spokesman for the Law Society of Scotland. Are you ready to book such a well-known speaker for your next event? He taught at Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities and lectured at Tulliallan Police College for 16 years. Having served on the Central Committee of the Law Society of Scotland for some years Len was also the Committee’s Vice – Chairman for two, had spells as a Temporary Sheriff and was a part – time Chairman of Employment Tribunals.
Now the ambassador for Glasgow Caledonian University, Len is equally known as one of the country’s top after-dinner speakers and has spoken all over the UK and abroad, on four continents, from Edmonton and Calgary in the West to Singapore in the East.
Len Murray is a member of the Burns Federation and is Honorary President of Greenock Burns Club, the oldest Burns Club in the world. His autobiography, called The Pleader, was published in the Autumn of 2002 to very good reviews, most of which, some suspect, he wrote himself. This golfer was recently a member of Crail Golfing Society and is currently a member of Dougalston and Clober Golf Clubs in Milngavie.
